Food prices fall in December

Food prices fell 0.5 percent in December 2006, following increases of 0.1 percent in November 2006 and 0.3 percent in October 2006.

In December 2006, lower prices were recorded for the dry goods (down 0.8 percent), fruit and vegetables (down 1.9 percent) and non-alcoholic beverages (down 0.4 percent) subgroups. Higher prices were recorded for the restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food (up 0.3 percent), and meat, poultry and fish (up 0.2 percent) subgroups.
