Christmas just around the corner

With Christmas just around the corner, I’d like to
take this opportunity to say what a pleasure it has been for
us to have provided services to you throughout the year.

I would like to leave the year with one thought for the holiday
season. We often neglect to think of tips in NZ but do any of
us know the true meaning of the word? My research dates their
use back to England (yes, not the US) in the 16th century. Brass
urns were placed in coffee houses with the inscripture “To Insure
Promptitude”. Customers who wanted special service dropped a
coin in them. These days most tips are left after a meal. Studies
in the States indicate that diners who are unlikely to return
to a restaurant (e.g. when they are dining on holiday) would
tip the same as the most frequent clientele.

To you, your staff and your families, from all of us at the
Menu Du Jour, have an enjoyable Christmas and New Year and a
relaxing break afterwards.
