According to Statistics NZ prices decreased for dry
goods, soft drinks, confectionery, meat, fish, poultry and fruit
and vegetables.

The dry goods, soft drinks and confectionery subgroup was the
main driver of the drop in food prices with the most significant
downward contribution from potato crisps (down 8.2%).

The meat, fish and poultry subgroup decreased 1.6% in April.
The most significant downward contributions came from lower
prices for fresh chicken, pork and beef steak. The decrease
in fruit and vegetables prices was caused by lower prices of
potatoes and cauliflower.
