Food prices decreased

Food prices decreased 0.9% in February according to Statistics New Zealand. Prices declined for fruit and vegetables, meat, fish and poultry, and grocery foods. This is the largest monthly decrease in food prices since February 2000.
Fruit and vegetable prices decreased 6.6%, driven by lower prices for apples, potatoes and carrots.
Meat, fish and poultry prices were down 1.3%, with the most significant downward contributions from lower prices for beef steak and lamb.
